Forest Vegetation Simulator

Using a growth and yield model is often fundamental to understanding your site, how it is developing, and how that development might be altered with silvicultural treatments.  This IMDS module uses the Forest Vegetation Simulator (FVS) to serve this purpose since most students come to us from the Forest Service and every group will have multiple agency employees.  We EXPECT Forest Service folks to have some understanding of the model coming into the unit; if not (or it has been a while), and certainly for non-Forest-Service students, then there is a self-paced “Forest Vegetation Simulator Tutorial” that provides some back ground explanation of modeling and then has users walk through some basic FVS exercises. It is very introductory and we’d only suggest it for those that have not yet taken FVS training.
